FIBA 3×3: D’Tigers, D’Tigress qualify for quarter-finals

Reigning FIBA 3×3 Africa Cup champions, Nigeria’s D’Tigers have booked a quarter-final ticket at the on-going FIBA 3×3 Africa Cup 2018 in Lome, Togo.

D’Tigers recorded a 17-16 win over hard fighting Cape Verde in their opening Pool C game on Saturday.

In their second game, D’Tigers were more clinical outscoring Uganda 22-5 in a one-sided affair. Nigeria finished top of Pool C with two wins from two games amassing 39 points.

D’Tigers will face Egypt in the quarter-finals on Sunday while Cote d’ Ivoire will face Togo. Mali will take on Uganda, and Madagascar will battle the Democratic Republic of Congo in the remaining fixture.

In the women’s category, D’Tigress also booked a place in the quarter-finals after they recorded two wins in Pool B.

D’Tigress pulled a 17-12 win over Benin Republic in their first game before beating Egypt 20-18. They will face Niger in the quarter-finals.

The FIBA 3×3 Africa Cup competition is an opportunity for teams to earn points that will in the long run help with qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics where the event will make a historic debut appearance.
