FGGC Sagamu Alumni to Empower Students
The Federal Government Girls College, Sagamu (FGGCS), Alumni in the United States of America has said it has mapped out collective plans to raise funds and resources to support the Alma Mater and less fortunate students.
In a statement made available to Daily times and signed by its Vice-President, Board of Directors, Mrs Abimbola Art-Alade said, the 2015 event to regroup is aimed at giving back and members and sister organizations across the globe by leveraging individual and collective resources and talents.
According to Art-Alade, the achievements of the US chapter of Federal Government Girls College (FGGC) Sagamu Alumni, a not for profit organization incorporated in the USA include, “upgrade of school library (donation of books, air conditioning unit and book shelves), Alumni assistance programme (payment of medical costs for 2 Alumni, including surgical fees for Alumnus with cancer).”
The Alumni sai it is determined to empower young girls to become serious contenders and market leaders in the ICT industry, by nurturing their passion for computer programming from an early age.
“ICT is shaping the future of business, communication and marketing. Industry forecasts have pegged ICT to be one of Nigeria’s largest revenue earners by 2020. We also project to set up an academic club dedicated to teaching girls the fundamentals of computing programming from an early age for one hour every week.”
Founded in 1978, FGGCS strives to maintain a fine balance between high academic standards and encouraging the personal development of each student through respectful interaction with others regardless of faith, tribe or family economic status, and through participation in a wide range of extra-curricular activities including the Annual House Festival of Arts and Inter-House Sports Games.
FGGCS impresses upon its students the enormous ethical and moral responsibilities that will be theirs, as ambassadors of the school.
An Alumni organization was established in the USA in July 2011 when a group of old students gathered for a reunion in Bowie, Maryland.
