FG confers honours on Abiola, other June 12 heroes Tuesday

…Invites Prof. Nwosu, Saraki, Dogora, all ex-SDP leaders,others
The Federal Government has said that it has concluded arrangements for President Muhammadu Buhari to confer Post-Humous national honour of Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR),on the late Chief M.K.O. Abiola the presumed winner of the annulled June 12 , 1993 general election on Tuesday.

This was disclosed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Boss Mustapha, in a statement made available on Friday.

The SGF added that President Buhari will also confer a Post Humous Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) on legal luminary and human rights activist, the late Chief Gani Fawehinmi (SAN) while Ambassador Babagana Kingibe will be decorated with the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).

According to the SGF, the investiture will take place on Tuesday at the Conference Hall, State House, Aso Rock Villa, Abuja at about 10am.

Accordingly, Kingibe , the family of the late Bashorun M.K.O. Abiola and that of Chief Gani Fawehinmi , along with key players of June 12 struggle are also invited for the event.

Those invited by the federal government include: “Members of the National Executive Committee of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) including States Chairmen and Secretaries at the time of June 12, 1993.

“All governors elected under SDP platform, former Senate Presidents – Iyorchia Ayu and Ameh Ebute and Speaker Agunwa Anekwe along with Principal Officers of the National Assembly elected under SDP platform.

“Speakers of the States Assembly elected under SDP platform; All Chairmen of the States Traditional Councils from the six South-Western States.

“Others invited for the investiture are Prof. Wole Soyinka, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Chief Bisi Akande, Ms. Ayo Obe, Bayo Onanuga – The News, Kunle Ajibade – Tempo, Nosa Igiebor – Tell, Kayode Komolafe – Media Hope 93, Senator Janathan Zwingina – DG Hope 93, Comrade Frank Ovie Kokori and the Chairman defunct National Electoral Commission (NEC), Prof. Humphrey Nwosu .
“Also invited are Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogora, Principal Officers of the National Assembly, Members of the Federal Executive Council and all State Governors.”

The statement added that, “Accommodation has been reserved for all invitees at the NICON Luxury Hotel, Tafawa Balewa Way, area 11, Garki, Abuja from Monday, 11th June 2018.
