FG committee on minimum wage deceitful. ANAP scribe

The committee on minimum wage for workers set up by the federal government after last May Day has been described as a deceit aimed at stemming workers’ agitation for better welfare package.

This was the view of the Secretary General of Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals (ANAP), Comrade Abdul-Rasaq in an interview in Lagos.

He said almost a year into the setting up of the committee, nothing has been unfolded to indicate the seriousness of the assignment given to members of the committee.

Comrade Saidu, who said he was not surprised at the idleness of the committee because many of the governors who were members of the committee have been unable to even pay the contentious N18,000 minimum wage.

He then asked:” How can such governor(s) support increase in workers salary? The and their National Assembly members earn millions of Naira monthly as salaries and allowances, while workers welfare are pushed to the background as if they are animals and we patronise the same market”.

He said, now that another May Day is here, workers should not be deceived again into believing any political pronouncements of President Buhari during the coming workers’ day.

” Our eyes are now opened. We are mobilising workers and reaction will be very tough than that of last year”, he assured.”

Saidu went on: ” We want to ask- Who fixes the salaries and allowances of these people in power? Who approves the yearly budget of National Assembly members? The United Labour Congress (ULC) of which ANAP is one of the affiliates member will rise up to the challenges facing workers if other central labour bodies failed in their duties”.

The workers lot would have been better addressed if leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC), have not compromised their position by dining and wining with political leaders of the country, adding ” they cannot continue to deceive workers any longer. We are more wiser than before.

Like I stated earlier. Those who made peaceful change impossible, shall make violent change inevitable and the end result is revolution!”.

Comrade Saidu therefore called on President Buhari to listen and positively solve the workers agitation by ” doing the needful before it get to that stage and also do away with all unscrupulous and deceitful people around him”.
