FG, Anambra to compensate flood victims

The sum of N10, 000 is to be given to each victim of flood disaster in Anambra state by the Federal Government. Also the Anambra state government has commenced plans to compensate farmers who were affected by the flood menace in the state with fertilizer and other seed crops for the next farming season.

According to the Commissioner for Information and Enlightenment Chef C. Don Adinuba who disclosed this to reporters yesterday in Awka,

“The Federal Government has announced that it would be paying the sum of N10,000 to each house hold and this is aimed at cushioning the effect of the loss incurred by the farmers.’

“On our own part as a state government we are taking a rundown of the farmers and very soon Government will also come up with our own package for the farmers.

“We shall also provide them with fertilizer and other seed crops which also include grains and other crops.

Adinuba dismissed allegations that government has abandoned the flood victims contending that relief materials are being distributed to the victims at the respective Internally Displaced Persons IDP camps in the state.

“We are also providing medical facilities to the victims as well as mosquito nets and food stuff to them.

“This is being done along with the Federal Government under the National Emergency Management Agency NEMA and its counterpart the State Emergence Management Agency SEMA.

Responding on behalf of the farmers, the Coordinator Children of Farmers Club Comerade Christopher Okwuosa noted that the actions of both the state government and Federal Government are commendable adding that government should ensure that the beneficiaries are the real farmers affected by the flood.
