Federal Government Connects Birth Registration, School Enrollment for Efficient Planning
In order to incorporate birth registration and demographic data into Nigeria’s school enrollment and education planning systems, the Federal Ministry of Education claims to have formalized a strategic partnership with the National Population Commission.
Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, made this announcement in a statement released on Tuesday via X.
“Rational school siting, balanced teacher deployment, accurate enrollment projections, and equitable resource allocation all depend on credible population data,” according to a statement from Education Minister Dr. Olatunji Alausa.
He pointed out that incorporating birth registration into admissions procedures would strengthen the integrity of academic records and encourage appropriate age placement.
In order to prevent unintentional obstacles for families, the minister emphasized that enforcement would follow increased nationwide access to registration services.
He emphasized how digital integration can increase transparency, monitor enrollment trends, and spot dropouts early.
Aminu Yusuf, the chairman of the NPC, responded by restating the commission’s mandate to uphold Nigeria’s Civil Registration and Vital Statistics system.
He mentioned that there were over 4,000 registration centers in operation across the country, with continuous digital improvements.
“Both institutions agreed to establish a Joint Technical Working Group to harmonize verification procedures and ensure database interoperability,” the statement stated.
It claimed that the collaboration strengthened the federal government’s dedication to inclusive national development and evidence-based educational reform.
