About 20 members of a faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly on Tuesday morning took over the Assembly complex and held a plenary session.
POLITICS NIGERIA gathered that the lawmakers, loyal to the embattled Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, demanded a police investigation into a fire incident in the chamber on October 29.
The lawmakers also discussed the suspension of a strike by the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN).
Whether the lawmakers resumed impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara is still unknown as of press time.
Recall that the political ambience of the state was rattled following the impeachment proceedings against Fubara on October 30.
The lawmakers who led the move were reportedly loyal to the former governor of the state and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Police patrol vans have been stationed at the entrance of the Assembly complex, and vehicular and pedestrian traffic, which was restricted during the sitting, has now been restored on Moscow Road. The police also locked the entrance to the House of Assembly complex.
This development comes 48 hours after the factional Speaker of the House, Edison Ehie, alleged an assassination attempt on his life on Sunday night.
