The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is partnering with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to train veterinary doctors in modern abattoir management, as part of efforts to upgrade veterinary services and align with global best practices.

This was disclosed during a meeting between the Mandate Secretary of the Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat, Hon. Abdullahi Ango, and a JICA delegation led by Professor Wataru Yamazaki, the agency’s Country Representative in Nigeria.

Ango commended the collaboration and stressed the importance of delivering top-tier services in Nigeria’s capital, particularly in critical sectors like veterinary services.

He assured the delegation of the FCT Administration’s support under the leadership of Nyesom Wike and Mariya Mahmoud as ministers, noting the alignment of the initiative with Abuja’s development vision.

“The current FCT leadership is prioritizing infrastructural development, not just in the city center but across all six Area Councils,” Ango stated.

“Having recently assumed office, I am keen on strengthening our collaboration with JICA to further advance the agricultural sector,” he added.

In his remarks, Professor Yamazaki thanked the Secretariat for its warm reception and outlined JICA’s plans to train veterinary doctors in the FCT.

He explained that the visit was aimed at developing a tailored training manual in partnership with the Secretariat’s Veterinary Services Department, with a focus on modern abattoir management and global best practices.

Earlier, the Director of Veterinary Services, Dr. Idris Ademoh, expressed optimism that the training initiative would significantly boost efficiency and service delivery in the FCT’s veterinary sector.
