FCTA flags-off immunisation exercise

As part of proactive measure to stem child and maternal morbidity and mortality rate in the Federal Capital Territory, the Permanent Secretary of FCTA, Sir Chinyeaka Ohaa has flagged off 5 days of intensive free immunisation exercise in the territory and the six Area Councils of the FCT.

The Permanent Secretary, who flagged off the free immunisation exercise during the 16th Round of Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week on Friday in Area 2, Garki, Abuja, further remarked that services to be provided during the exercise included nutritional assessment of children, HIV testing services, and ante natal care services among others.

He said: “The services to be provided included nutritional assessment of children, deworming of children, HIV testing services, birth spacing services, focused ante natal care services, birth registration and insurance of birth certificate to newly born babies and many more.”

To this end, he therefore called on parents and care givers to cooperate with the health workers by bringing their children and wards for the exercise, adding that the vaccines are safe.

His words: “I will also want to use this opportunity to reassure all parents/care givers that the vaccines are safe. Therefore, care givers are urged to cooperate with the health workers for efficient and effective services.”

According to the Permanent Secretary, the exercise which would be carried out in all public and private health facilities, temporary fixed posts, schools, mosques and churches, promises to be far reaching.
