FCT schools ban cellphone in govt secondary schools

Henceforth, public schools across the FCT will have its students banned from using cell phones, this is in the efforts to upgrade the standard of education in the schools.

This is part of the resolutions reached at the end of a meeting held Tuesday between the chairman of FCT-SEB and chairmen of Parents Teachers Association (PTAsJ) of over 62 senior secondary schools in the Territory.

The board, who has the interests of reinvigorating the performance of the students in external examinations, held that any student caught with handset, should be made to submit such handset to the school authority for immediate destruction, while parents should be sensitized on the dangers of allowing their children access to handsets while in school.

The meeting also resolved that any student of government secondary school in the FCT, who is found to be a member of a secret cult should be given an indefinite suspension by the school management, while such student would not be admitted into any government secondary school within the territory.

Speaking with newsmen after the meeting, the chairman of FCT-SEB, Hon. Yahaya Musa Mohammad, noted that some of the students do not use the handsets for positive reasons, rather they get into a lot of websites, which are inimical to the growth of their psychic.

Mohammad added that rather than concentrating, the students use the handsets for others things which, according to him, affect the standards of education, as our future leaders.

He continued: “They can go home and use their handsets, but in our schools we will not allow it. Some of the students do not use the handset for positive reasons. So, we are categorically banning the use

of handsets in public secondary schools in the FCT.

For those who cannot do without it, they can leave it with the security at the gates, before entering the school premises; so that when school closes they take it and go back home. But we will not allow the use of handset within our school premises, particularly in the boarding schools.”
