FCT police parade 98 suspects, recover 15 AK-47 rifles

The Commissioner of Police in the FCT, Bala Ciroma, yesterday paraded 98 suspected criminals arrested for various offences by the command from January till date.
The commissioner revealed that their offences committed by the suspects include armed robbery, car snatching, rape and human trafficking.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, Ciroma disclosed that during the period under review, the command also recovered 15 AK- 47 rifles, 21 locally made pistols, two pump action rifles, 379 ammunitions, 17 cars, one tricycle and 26 bags of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
Ciroma also revealed that the command recovered four pairs of military camouflage, 18 bottles of codeine syrup, three packs of diazepam, four packs of exol, 79 cell phones, cutlasses and knives in the course of the command’s anti-crime operations.
He said that the command would not rest on its oars in ensuring that crime is nipped in the bud and black-spots identified as hibernating points for criminals are promptly dislodged.
While commending the FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello for his unflinching support towards eradicating criminals in the territory, he reiterated his commitment to ensure that men of the underworld have no safe haven in the nation’s capital.
He assured the public that the command would continue to review its policing strategy to meet up with the expectations of the FCT residents.
The commissioner therefore, called on community and religious leaders, residents and other stakeholders to support the police in its renewed efforts to fight crime and make FCT safe and secured for all.
“It is cardinal to further place a clarion call across to community leaders and all communities in FCT must rise up against criminals by exposing their activities to the police,’’ Ciroma said.
