The FCT Commissioner of Police Mr. Musa Kimo, has reiterated his
Command’s efforts to get rid of all manners of criminality in the territory
following the moves made by the Joint Task Force(JTF) on illegal operation
of banned objects that deface the Nigerian capital city.

The Commissioner of police, who is the chairman of the JTF
in chat with Daily Times, stated that in as much as Abuja
remains the only face of Nigeria before the international communities, his taskforce will continue to ensure that all unwanted people
are shown the way out or made to face the wrath of the law.

Mr. Musa kimo, who was sharing views on the activities of the
taskforce for the month of June under review, said that the following
formed the progress report of the operations of the Ministerial Joint
Taskforce on the enforcement of the ban on use of motorcycles,
restriction of tricycles, activities of unpainted taxis/illegal motor
parks and the eradication of commercial sex hawkers and other
public nuisance.

The Chairman further remarked that having the full strength of all
security agencies on the team from 12 June to 25 June, 2017 did
professionally marvelous jobs to arrest about
eight unpainted taxis and illegally parked vehicles.

Meanwhile, adding to the number of commercial motorcycles arrested in
June, about 129 new ones have just been arrested as
they failed to heed the warnings of the FCT administration.
Mr. kimo noted that most of the commercial cyclists arrested
were caught plying opposite lane to the detriment of advancing
vehicles.

He said that about eight suspects were arrested on the 14th of this
month for various offences including illicit drugs such as
provision of cannabis, shoplifting and possession of light weapons.
The eight, he said, have been handed over to the Police for further
investigation on such activities and to face the law as recommended.

For various offences like outlaws, the police commissioner revealed
that six suspects were arrested on 21 June, 2017 for attacking
VIO officials on duty in Area 3 Garki.
He said that the suspects were charged
to court same day and remanded in Keffi Prison to face charges at
appointed date according to the law. “I must tell you that we have to
be proactive in ensuring that the society is cleaned up for others to
leave without fear.
We have to charge them to court immediately as the
incident has attracted public concerns. One of the suspects wanted to
disarm a female soldier of her service rifle and it has degenerated to
that”.
The FCT police commissioner stressed that his taskforce, raided
illegal mechanic workshop on the 22 June near Kubwa train station.
He revealed that the offenders were released after educating them on the
danger of operating without proper approval, as the Parks and
Recreation Department of the FCT administration, had severally issued
them quit notices which they disobeyed.
Mr. Kimo said that activities of illegal motor parks have become a
menace in a city like the FCT. SIx suspects were also arrested along
airport road in Sauka on 23 June, 2017. They were counseled and released same day.
