FCIU, Wikki to kick start NPFL Super 4
The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Super 4 will kick off on December 7 with FC Ifeanyiubah (FCIU) battling Wikki Tourists billed as the opening match in Enugu.
According to the official website of the NPFL, Nigerian champions, Enugu Rangers will square up against Rivers United in the second game of the opening day which will hold from 7pm local time.
Matchday Two of the pre-season tournament at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium will begin with Rangers facing Wikki before Rivers United go up against Cup holders, FC Ifeanyiubah in the second match on December 9.
Rivers United, Wikki will open the final matchday while league champions Rangers and Cup holders FC Ifeanyiubah round off the tournament in a mouthwatering contest.
Chief Operating Officer of the League Management Company (LMC), Salihu Abubakar, explained why all six games during the NPFL Super 4 will be played under floodlight.
“We are continuing with the growing popularity of night games in Enugu and essentially, we are also considering a fan-friendly time when businesses would have closed to encourage huge turnout for the matches,” Abubakar said.
The Super 4 is NPFL’s pre-season tournament organised by the LMC to help the four clubs that will take in CAF inter-club competitions.
Rangers and Rivers United are scheduled to participate in the 2017 CAF Champions League while FC Ifeanyiubah and Wikki will play in the Confederation Cup.
