Farmers commend FG’s deployment of 7,000 forest guards to boost security
The National President of All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Hon. Muhammed Magaji Gettado, has commended the federal government for deploying 7,000 forest guards across seven states of the country.
Honorable Gettado who spoke to journalists in Bauchi on Monday, noted that the recent graduation and deployment of over 7,000 newly recruited Forest Guards drawn from seven frontline states by the federal government will strengthen internal security and reclaim Nigeria’s forests from criminal elements.
According to him, the move will no doubt, encourage farmers to return to their farms for dry season farming, and will also prevent terrorists and criminal groups from having sanctuary in forested areas.
He urged state governments to cooperate with the forest guards and support the Federal Government’s efforts to combat insecurity.
“The deployment of forest guards will no doubt open the floodgates and easy access to farms by our hardworking farmers who before now had abandoned their farms for fear of their dear lives,” Gettado said.
The forest guards, trained in environmental conservation and security competencies, are expected to be first responders and community protectors, restoring state authority and protecting vulnerable communities.
He said, the approach, been coordinated by office of the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu has restored the confidence of the association in the President Bola Tinubu’s government towards ensuring food security.
