The Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria (FADAN) has proposed to build a garment production hub in Lagos and the association has said it would need about N150 million for the construction of the hub and is looking at getting financial support from the from the Federal Government and other investors. The production hub is expected to include a retail store to display the garments and accessories made by Nigerian fashion designers and garment manufacturers thereby providing a meeting point for the leading brands in the Nigerian apparel market.
The hub according to the Lagos state coordinator of the association, Kolawole Kuddus, would serve as a breeding ground for budding fashion designers, reduce the high production costs in fashion designing, and also boost productivity.
“Nigeria boasts of a fashion industry that in the last three years employed about 70 per cent of the graduates in different fields which include, fashion photography, magazine production, pattern making, styling, and wardrobe consultancy,” he said.
