Facebook Unveils Developer Circles in Benin

Benin City is now home to a new wave of innovation as Facebook officially launches its Developer Circles in Edo State. The initiative is designed to empower aspiring tech minds by providing access to expert guidance, collaborative spaces, and real-world development opportunities.

At the launch event, Mr. Ifeanyi Madu, co-lead of the Benin Developer Circle, emphasized the mission behind the platform: building a strong, solutions-driven tech community. “This isn’t just about coding—it’s about creating impact-driven technology that solves real problems,” Madu said.

He noted that the Developer Circle is not only a learning hub but a space where young innovators can team up to build startups, prototype solutions, and prepare for the global tech economy. Other experts present – Asemota Izoduwa Precious and Opene Victoria – encouraged the participants, noting that plans were already underway for a local incubation space to support these ideas as they grew.

In a show of public-private collaboration, Mrs. Ukinebo Dare, Senior Special Assistant to the Edo State Governor on Skills Development and Jobs Creation, praised the launch as a timely and strategic move for the state. Represented by Mrs. Uyi Umaigba, Director of Cluster Promotion and Management at Edo Jobs, she shared that over 1,000 developers had already registered in Benin, following the success of the Lagos chapter, which boasts 20,000+ members.

“This platform gives developers more than just tools—it gives them community, mentorship, and visibility,” Umaigba said, adding that the Edo State Government is committed to integrating the Circle with existing creative hubs within the Edo Innovation Hub.

Some of the registered members of the Benin platform who were at the event commended Facebook and the Edo government for the huge opportunity given to youths to become tech entrepreneurs.

They added that, with the support from both Facebook and the Edo State Government, the platform would also give youths the opportunity to contribute to the development of the state by creating tech products that would solve problems in society.
