Face governance, stop gallivanting around – Labour Party tells Gov Abiodun

Dapo Abiodun, Ogun

The Labour Party has told Governor Dapo Abiodun to face his duties as the elected governor of Ogun State instead of gallivanting all over the State.

It was gathered that Abiodun, in the last one week, has been touring the local governments in Ogun to campaign for candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the July 24 local government elections, saying the there is no other party in the state.

But, the Labour Party warned Gov Abiodun and the Ogun State Independent National Electoral Commission to desist from plans to rig the local government polls.

The party charged the Governor to allow the will of the people to prevail on Saturday.

Speaking with DAILY POST, the Labour Party chairmanship candidate in Obafemi-Owode Local Government, Olatunde Abolade, stated that “the way Abiodun and his candidates in the APC have been parading themselves is of utmost concern to us.”

Abolade warned that, “The winners of the elections should be decided at the polls and not by mere imposition and grandstanding.”

The LP candidate, while reacting to a statement by Gov Abiodun that there is only one political party in Ogun State, regretted that the governor could only have said such because plans might be underway to rig the elections.

However, he stressed that the LP is well structured in Ogun State and ready to take over the State from the ruling APC in 2023.

“We are aware of a statement credited to the governor that there is no other political parties in Ogun State apart from the APC. Why would he have said that if they have not perfected plans to rig the polls?

“We wish to tell the governor unequivocally that there are other parties in this State, of which Labour Party is one, with structures all over and we are prepared to take over the state come 2023,” Abolade added.

He added, “We will appreciate the governor if he would face the business he was elected for rather than gallivanting all over the state, all in the name of intimidating the opposition, which he claims does not exist. There are more serious work to be done.”
