FAAN Secures Dual ISO Certification Under Kuku’s Leadership, Signalling Global Standards Shift
In a move that signals a sophisticated shift in Nigeria’s aviation governance, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has officially secured the ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 certifications.
This achievement, validated by Canada’s MSECB, transitions the Authority from reactive management to a proactive, standards-driven era, aligning Nigeria’s gateways with the rigorous benchmarks of the world’s most competitive airport hubs.
The dual honours, covering Quality Management and Environmental Management respectively, were presented to the Managing Director, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, at the FAAN headquarters in Lagos.
For Kuku, who recently marked two years in office, the certifications serve as a tangible validation of her “process-first” philosophy.
Her tenure has been defined by an insistence on institutional reform and international benchmarking, steering the agency away from operational inconsistencies and toward a culture of transparency.
By adopting the Integrated Management System (IMS), FAAN has effectively harmonised its internal controls.
The ISO 9001:2015 certification ensures that passenger satisfaction and risk-based thinking are baked into daily operations, while the ISO 14001:2015 framework commits the Authority to sustainable practices, including waste reduction and resource efficiency.
Beyond the prestige of the plaques, these certifications bolster FAAN’s credibility with international airlines and development partners.
As Nigeria seeks to position itself as a primary African transit hub, the challenge now lies in the “continuous improvement” mandate inherent in these standards.
With a foundation built on audited excellence, the trajectory for Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure appears increasingly aligned with global best practices.
