EXCLUSIVE: How N200m contract deal triggered ex-boyfriend to kill Lagos woman — sister

Hope Okwori has recounted how her sister, Deborah Okwori, was murdered by her ex-boyfriend, Lintex Ogale, at their residence in Lagos.
On September 5, reports spread across social media that a man stabbed his ex-girlfriend to death for moving on without him.
In an interview with Daily Times Nigeria, Hope said Deborah met Lintex only a few weeks before her graduation, dismissing reports that he sponsored her through school.
She explained that the relationship lasted briefly and ended after a quarrel over a Netflix account.
“They broke up before her NYSC passing out parade in 2024, because of a Netflix account where she added her friend to watch a movie.
“She disagreed with him over removing the friend because it was her account and she pays for it. Because of the disagreement, he beat her up and destroyed her valuables,” she said.
Hope added that Lintex later blamed his violent behaviour on depression after losing his job, pleading with Deborah to take him back.
According to her, Deborah, who worked as an interior décor professional, had recently secured a contract worth N200 million.
She said the suspect learnt of the deal through a mutual friend and used it as a motive to kill her.
“It has been a year since they broke up having noticed that Deborah has moved on and is doing well for herself, he pleaded to her to accept him back.
“She was supposed to be the joy of our mother who recently retired without a retirement fund,” she lamented.
Narrating the events of the attack, Hope said the suspect disguised as a dispatch rider and gained entry into their estate.
“He snuck into the compound, jumped the fence and went straight to cut the gas pipe, just so she could suffocate in the house and maybe explode.
“However, that didn’t work out and he broke his way in to stab her multiple times till she gave up the ghost. The neighbours broke in when they heard her scream and that was how he got apprehended,” Hope recounted amidst tears.
She confirmed that Lintex was arrested and is currently at Panti police station in Yaba. She appealed to the public to ensure her sister gets justice and that the suspect is severely punished.
