Ex Senate President, Wabara seeks recall of Omo-Agege over role in theft of mace

Former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the people of Delta State to immediately commence the recall process of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, representing Delta Central district.

It will be recalled that Omo-Agege was suspended on April 12 by the Senate for 90 legislative days over remarks he made against new sequence of elections adopted by the Senate in the now vetoed 2018 Electoral Bill and also in the centre of the controversy surrounding the hijacking of the Mace of the Senate.

Wabara also called on the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) to immediately derobe the embattled Senator for his role in the saga.

Recall that thugs suspected to be loyal to the suspended Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial district, Ovie Omo-Agege, invaded the red chambers and forcefully took away the parliament’s symbol of authority.

Speaking at an event at the weekend, Wabara who commented on the Senate invasion saga said, “That was a rape on democracy. I was there at the helm of affairs for almost two years and I am speaking on good authority that it was an invasion on the National Assembly.

“Anything can happen to me stepping out of here. The leadership of the Senate would have been affected that day because a new Senate President would have been installed that day.

“I salute the resilience of the leadership of the Senate. This senator should be recalled immediately.

“INEC and his people should immediately commence the process of his recall. I urge the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) to start the process of disrobing him.”

Wabara also called for the strengthening of the institution of National Assembly even as he sought for the establishment of National Assembly police.

He said, “The National Assembly institution should be strengthened. If state governors are thinking about state police, the National Assembly should start thinking about NASS police.”

In a veiled reference to the statement credited to President Muhammadu Buhari against Nigerian youths, Wabara urged Nigerians to be resolute in their commitment to the wellbeing of the nation and resist any attempt by anybody to demonise and denigrate them.
