Ex-dep Gov Ekpenyong floors Sen Akpabio

The former Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Engr. Christopher Ekpenyong, on Tuesday, carpeted the incumbent Senator Godswill Akpabio as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) finally declared winner of the National Assembly Elections conducted last weekend. Addressing correspondents and political Party Agents at INEC headquarters in Uyo on Tuesday, the Returning Officer for the National Assembly Election in the Senatorial District, Prof. Peter Ogban of the Department of Soil Science at the University of Uyo confirmed that Engr. Ekpenyong polled a total votes of 118,215 to defeat his rival Godswill Obot Akpabio of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who scored 83,158 votes. Prof. Ogban disclosed that out of 218,493 accredited voters, valid votes stood at 202,387 while rejected votes were 7,307. Prof. Ogban, who announced the result at INEC headquarters in Uyo under tight security, declared Ekpenyong winner of the senatorial seat replacing the former Governor of the state and former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio. Similarly, the Returning Officer for Ikot Ekpene, Essien Udim and Obot Akara Federal Constituency announced the result for National Assembly elections in the area. Dr. Daniel Udo, who is a Lecturer in the Department of the University of Uyo, said out of total number of 240,849 voters, with valid votes of 52,036, Hon. Nsikak Ekong polled total votes of 29,849 to defeat the incumbent Federal Lawmaker, Hon. Emmanuel Akpan, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who scored 22,052 votes. He said nine political parties participated in the election and declared Hon Nsikak Ekong of the Peoples Democratic Party winner to replace the incumbent Lawmaker.
