Ex CBN Gov, Sanusi invests $1bn in A’Ibom

The former Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Emir of Kano, His Royal Majesty Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has indicated interest to invest one billion dollars in Qua Iboe Power Project (QIPP) in Akwa Ibom state.

Emir Sanusi disclosed this in Uyo yesterday during his visit to Governor Udom Emmanuel in Government House.

Reacting to such huge investment, the Special Assistant to Governor Emmanuel on Marketing and Brand Management, Mr Sam Edoho said the investment was as a result of Governor Emmanuel’s peaceful disposition and urgent industrialisation drive.

Edoho, who is a brand expert and former Director with GLOBACOM said it is only a governor like Udom Emmanuel who has “a peaceful disposition and understands the nature of international business and commerce” that can attract an investor of the Emir’s calibre to invest their money in the local economy.

In his words, “the visit of Emir Sanusi to Akwa Ibom state can be said to be a continuous harvest of gains by Akwa Ibom people for the right decision we made in 2015 to elect a practical economist, an intellectual and a governor whose career profile is above the bar as far as banking, international business and commerce is concerned.”

He explained that the Emir’s company is investing in Qua Iboe Power Project, QIPP, to the tune of 1billion US dollar.

“This is mega investment anywhere in the world and it is happening in Akwa Ibom state under the leadership of Governor Udom Emmanuel. This project is real. I have attended some technical sessions of the QIPP and this is a plus to our state” he said

“So the Emir came to Akwa Ibom state for serious business not to play politics. It is because this is serious business that is why Emir Sanusi left his palace in Kano and came to Uyo”

Edoho who also coordinates the Dakkada philosophy of the state government went further to urge Akwa Ibom people to re-elect Governor Udom Emmanuel for another four years to attract prosperity for the people and completely change the status of the state from a civil service and politics driven economy to a mega industrialized and private sector driven economy.

“Many states in this country are envious of the quality of Governor that Akwa Ibom has. Do you think that many Governors would not like to create investment opportunities in their state?

“Their spirit is willing but the flesh is weak, that is to say the technical know-how is not sufficient. We must ensure that the peace we currently enjoy continue.

We must not miss this unique opportunity of having a governor whose personal profile and integrity is attracting investors to our state and making Akwa Ibom the cynosure of all eyes he cautioned.

He advised Akwa Ibom people not to make the mistake of electing people that will take them back to the days of insecurity, mismanaging of our common patrimony via sharing of money and mortgaging the future of our unborn children through unnecessary loans taken to finance imaginary projects.

The former Central Bank Governor and Emir of Kano had applauded Governor Udom Emmanuel for making Akwa Ibom conducive for investors by maintaining peace and promised to expand his company’s investments in the gas sector in the state to the tune of a billion dollars.
