EU Sign Pact With FG To Boost Immunization, End Polio
The European Union (EU), has signed an agreement with the Federal Government of Nigeria (FG), to ensure that sustainable quality Routine Immunization services are permanently available through effective Primary Health Care system in 24 states, aimed at also supporting the interruption of Wild Polio Virus.
This was stated by the Executive Secretary, Plateau State Primary Health Care Development Board, Dr. Livinus Miapkwap, at the flag off ceremony for European Union Support to Immunization Governance in Nigeria (EU-SIGN), Project in Plateau State recently.
Speaking at the occasion, Miapkwap said that the EU project is aimed at supporting the 24 states in the areas of training, capacity building, provision of infrastructure, needs assessment, monitoring and supervision to ensure routine immunization services positioned to serve mothers and children.
He stated that the project agreement is to support and strengthen the capacity of the selected key institutions at National and sub-National level in order to improve their performance in the management of quality immunization service delivery as well as improve the overall governance of the sector in terms of policy coherence and sector coordination using evidence based instruments.
Plateau State is however among the 24 participating states selected on the basis of their performance and successful implementation of the past European Union activities.
