Eto’o retires from 22 years football career

One of Cameroonian professional footballers, Samuel Eto’o Fils has announced his retirement from his 22 years football career.

The 38-year-old soccer legend who last played Qatar Star League side Qatar SC, announced his retirement on his Instagram handle, on Friday.

He wrote, “THE END? VERS UN NOUVEAU DÉFI…

Merci à vous tous big love ❤️ adrénaline ??????.”

Translated in English as, “The End. Towards a new challenge. Thank you all, big love.”The Ex-Barcelona and Chelsea striker, is regarded as one of Africa’s greatest-ever players, won the African Player of the Year, a record of four times in 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2010.

Starting his career with international football leagues, Eto’o joined Real Madrid as a 16 year old, where he later moved to Barcelona in 2004, recording over 100 goals in five seasons and also became the record holder for the most number of appearances by an African player in La Liga.

He is the all-time leading scorer in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations, with 18 goals, and is Cameroon’s all-time leading scorer and third most capped player, with 56 goals in 118 caps.

In August 2014, Eto’o announced his retirement from international football, having bagged a total of 359 goals in 718 club games. After five years at Barca, he joined Inter Milan in 2009.
