Esan South East council boss, visits IDP camp of flood victims, assures of govt assistance

The Chairman of Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State, Mr. Victor Emuakhagbon, has paid a visit to the temporary camp of Internally Displaced Persons (IDP), in Ubiaja the council headquarters where displaced persons from flood in Ifeku Island are presently accommodated.

Emuakhagbon who was accompanied by the Vice- Chairman, Mr. Innocent Onowalen, top council officials and members of the legislative arm, assured the affected people of continued government assistance even as he felicitate with the people over the arrival of a baby boy that was delivered within the camp.

He council boss further assured that more amenities that will make their stay comfortable till the floods recedes will be provided and that arrangements are in top gear to making such possible, revealing that the state governor, Godwin Obaseki has been fully briefed and that he is aware of their predicaments.

He revealed that over forty communities spread across the local government are affected by the flood with over thirty one thousand persons displaced and that the IDP camps are presently located at Ugboha, Oria, Okpokporo and Ubiaja.

He advised the people to properly maintain facilities that are available for their use, noting that the temporary camp environment is a public Sports facility, stressing that those who are not used to the modern toilet facilities, should be honest enough to ask how they are used.

“Please help us manage whatever we have been able to supply for your use, we shall in due course provide those things you observed are not in place now,” he intoned.

He counseled the women to always keep an eagle eye on their children so as to prevent them from straying outside the camp, even as he assured them of adequate security as the camp he noted is located within the bowels of several government security agencies.

He told them that those with health challenges should not hesitate to visit the Public Health Center that is a stone throw from the camp.

Expressing his delight t the government gesture, the President, Ifeku-Island Association, Mr Lucky Inekeche thanked the Chairman for the provisions that had ameliorated their suffering and made life comfortable for them away from home, appealing to the Chairman to help in providing those things that will make their stay more comfortable.

The highlight of the visit was the naming of the new baby boy Obaseki jnr by the Chairman to which the people responded with loud ovation.
