Endorsement: Ohaneze Ndigbo suspends Secretary General

…Suspended scribe invades NEC meeting with 30 policemen

Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohaneze Ndigbo has suspended its Secretary General, Barrister Uche Okwukwu. A statement signed by Prince Barrister Uche Okpaga, the National Publicity Secretary of the organization, claimed that Okwukwu had in the last three days at various fora engaged in false representations of decisions and meetings of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and Imeobi of Ohaneze. The statement added that Okwukwu has arrogated to himself, the power to the organs of Ohaneze by “altering positions purportedly taken by these organs which are patently and obviously false”. Okpaga said these actions having taken place in the public domain and reportedly copiously in the mass media, the NEC, ” in an overwhelming majority decision after confronting Okwukwu has resolved that Okwukwu “is from this day, Thursday, 31st January 2019, suspended from his office as Secretary General of Ohaneze Ndigbo and membership of all organs of Ohaneze Ndigbo”. The statement urged every member of Ohaneze branches and affiliates bodies, in the meantime, to take note and desists from dealing with Okwukwu as Secretary General of Ohaneze Ndigbo. Meanwhile, The Daily Times gathered that the embattled Secretary General had led about 30 policemen into the ongoing National Executive (NEC) meeting at the national secretariat of Ohaneze Ndigbo causing tension and abrupt stoppage of the meeting. The meeting, according to an insider, was called to deliberate on issues of national importance and allegation of misconduct leveled against the national secretary. The Daily Times reports that the tension in the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation is not unconnected with the recent endorsement of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the forthcoming presidential election.
