Why We Endorsed Jonathan- Alliance for Democracy
The National Chairman of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Senator Mojisoluwa Akinfenwa, has given reasons why the party endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan for second term.
While speaking at a forum in Osogbo, he expressed conviction that AD would sooner or later produce president of the country.
He said, “President Goodluck Jonathan is the party presidential candidate for Saturday’s election, because there is no financial wherewithal to field such a candidate for now.
“The action is based on the fact that he performed better than all Nigeria past presidents put together.”
He faulted former President Olusegun Obasanjo for tearing his Peoples Democratic Party membership card in public.
He explained that it wasn’t wrong for Obasanjo to leave PDP but wronged the former president’s tearing of his membership card.
“Obasanjo is as an elder statesman, he ought not to have done that publicly,” he added.
Akinfenwa also decried the splitting of Afenifere into many factions, urging “Yorubas to come together as one entity so as to build on the good legacy of the past Yoruba leaders.”
He expressed confidence tthat Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega won’t compromise over the conduct of the next Saturday Presidential Election.
“Of all the chairmen of electoral bodies appointed to handle various elections in the past, Professor Jega remains the best, having conducted credible elections in 2011 and subsequent elections that followed”, he said.
He, however, cautioned Professor Jega not to allow himself to be polluted by some “dubious politicians”.
