Emir seeks FCTA intervention in primary healthcare provision

The Emir of Jiwa in the FCT, Alhaji Idris Musa, has called for the intervention of the FCT Administration in the provision of primary healthcare services.

Musa made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja.

He blamed the overstretching of existing healthcare centres in the territory on increasing population.

The emir said that the Area Councils funding of the Primary Health Care would not meet demand of healthcare services.

“The populations of today in FCT because of the security challenges we are having in this county, 3,000 people enter Abuja but 1,000 people go out.

“The remaining one remains inside, so if you go to satellite towns, 10 people live in a room.

“When you look at the percentage of the size of the primary healthcare and the size of the population that are there, it’s inadequate,” he said.

The monarch lamented the challenges faced by residents of Jiwa community and environs particularly during delivery.

“FCTA has to do something in the satellite towns to reduce the suffering of the masses in accessing healthcare especially among pregnant women.

“We have recorded several deaths among our women who in the course of delivery, are referred to the general hospital in Gwarimpa.

“The challenge is that, in most cases the vehicle conveying the patient are held on the road by gridlock and before you know it the patient gives up,” he added.
