Election Material Will Be Ready on Wednesday

 

The Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in Oyo State, Ambassador Rufus Akeju has disclosed that the ballot papers and result sheets would be delivered to the commission on Wednesday.

Akeju stated this on Monday while holding a crucial meeting with security chiefs tagged “Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) held at the commission’s offices in Ibadan, the State capital.

The REC who noted that the meeting held with security chiefs was to conclude and finalize all strategies concerning security before, during and after the elections also disclosed that he would personally receive the sensitive materials with party officials in attendance before they are moved under tight security to various INEC offices in the 33 local government areas in the state.

Akeju noted that on Friday, “sensitive materials will be moved to the three hundred and fifty-one (351) registration area camps, the poll officials will also be move into the Camps in order to ensure timely arrival at the voting points on Saturday 28th March, 2015.

He assured that in order to ensure credible polls, “the state will receive a large number of both local an foreign observers who are willing to traverse this state in order to see the voting procedure the voters in action and adequacy or otherwise of our security arrangement.

He said the commission had packaged documents that will assist the security agencies in the task of mobilization and deployment of their personnel.

Security chiefs in attendance include those of the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police, Nigeria Customs, Director of State Security Service, Federal Road Safety Commission, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps,

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Muhammed Katsina said the security chiefs are there to ensure free, fair and credible elections. “The atmosphere that will be credible to all voters and members of the public.

He noted that the security agents are ready to ensure security of lives and property during and after elections, noting that they will spare nobody to ensure credible polls.

Katsina while speaking noted that the close-doors meeting was in continuation of all stakeholders on ensuring credible polls in the state.

He noted that another meeting with other security chiefs would be held in his office tomorrow, Tuesday.
