Ekweremadu lifts indigent students with N38.5 Million in Enugu

The Ikeoha Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation founded by the Deputy Senate President, Chief Ike Ekweremadu has awarded scholarships and bursaries worth Thirty Eight Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N38.5m) to indigent students in Enugu State.
Beneficiaries of the scholarship and bursary awards are indigenes of the state who are first year students in universities in the country while students in penultimate and final years in polytechnics and universities also benefited from the bursary.
The foundation which is in its fourth edition awarded N400, 000 each to eighteen students and N40, 000 to each of the 300 students to support their education.
Speaking at the Ikeoha Foundation Adult Literacy Day and 2016/2017 Scholarship and Bursary Award Ceremony, Ekweremadu said though the cost of financing the programme was becoming worrisome, he would continue to appeal to God to help him sustain the foundation.
“I thank the almighty GOD who is providing the resources to sustain the foundation. The society has been nice to me and I believe that this scholarship and bursary award is one of the ways I can give back.
“I want to assure you that I will continue to give back through Ikeoha Foundation for the good of the people,” he said.
The Deputy Senate President while emphasising on the importance of education said he could not have gotten to the stage he is in the society without education.
“I want to tell the adult learners that it is never late to go to school,” he said.
He congratulated the young boys and girls that benefit from the bursary and scholarship and advised them to make good use of the opportunity.
Ekweremadu further assured that they would continue to support indigent students that are brilliant despite their economic situations in their homes and encouraged the beneficiaries to go back to school and prove themselves.
One of the beneficiaries, Akagworow Cynthia Ukamaka, who spoke on behalf of others, said she is full of joy and prayed to God to continue to bless Ekeremadu.
“With this assistance we will do our best in our academics,” she said.
The event features many activities such as spelling bees, cultural dances, match past, recitations, among others by the Adult Literacy Students of the foundation.
