Ekiti Head of Service Commends Doctors’Commitments to Health Sector

Ekiti State Head of Service, Dr Olugbenga Faseluka has hailed medical doctors in the State for their resilience and commitment to the betterment of the health sector.

Speaking in Ado Ekiti at a forum, the Head of Service commended the Medical and Dental Consultants’ Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) for constructing an office complex in the premises of the State University Teaching Hospital; saying that the feat was a demonstration of commitment to the health sector despite the economic recession which has affected regular payment of salaries.

Faseluka who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, General Administrations Department, Mr. James Owolabi appealed to the doctors to be patient with government on the payment of their salaries; saying that government would soon release subventions to the Teaching Hospital and other subvented agencies.

He traced the delay in the payment of their salary to the meagre federal allocation which the State receives.

While urging them to put an end to the strike embarked upon by the doctors, the Head of Service said the action could put the health sector in jeopardy as this would affect many patients in the hospitals.

In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director of the State University Teaching Hospital, Dr Kolawole Ogundipe said staff of the teaching hospital have always demonstrated passion and commitment to work.

Ogundipe who noted that MDCAN plays a key role in the medical field stated that medical practice should be regulated for optimal performance.
