Ekiti FIDA re-emphasizes commitment to welfare of children

The International Federation of Women Lawyers, (FIDA), Ekiti State Chapter has re-emphasized its commitment to securing the welfare and ensuring a better future for children in general and the girl child in particular.
Its commitment was further reiterated yesterday when FIda Ekiti stormed the peaceful community of Oke Ayedun Ekiti in Ikole Local government of the state to celebrate this year’s Universal Day of Children at Fiyinfolu Comprehensive High School, Oke Ayedun Ekiti.
The outreach programme titled: “Universal Children Day 2017” was done in concert with Association’s core objectives and commitment towards providing motivation for the girl child. This it expressed by the presentation of a prize to Miss Bosede Onilua who emerged as the Best Female Student in the last promotion examinations in the school.
During the outreach, Ekiti FIDA team spoke to students on various educative topics which include: Skill Development and entrepreneurship, Relationship, and Postpone Dating/Pairing-Up.
The FIDA Chairperson, Mrs Adefunke Anoma, in her message charged the students to take their destinies in their hands regardless of the very many challenges and limitations they face daily, “because the world is waiting to celebrate them.”
Barr. Lola Aluko who also spoke about pointers to becoming an entrepreneur, skills to build, advantages and disadvantages of entrepreneurship, emphasized the importance of formal education in entrepreneurship.
Mrs Foluke Oyeleye, educated the children about relationship, and postpone dating /pairing , advised both girls and boys to avoid any sexual relationship now.
She pointed out that the consequence of such at a young age can mar or destroy their future, stressing; “You are still children in accordance with the provisions of the law and so are not capable of handling issues and challenges that may arise from sexual relations.
“The girls must maintain their ‘NO’ to sex advances from the opposite sex and the boys must respect the girls and their ‘ NO’ all the time”, she said.
Alhaja Asmau Baderinwa, who spoke on how they can secure a good future for themselves by avoiding bad companies and associations, also advised the boys against criminal offences; even minor offences and its legal implications
on their career and future.
Earlier, the management of the school led by Mr. Festus Ajayi who received members of the association expressed gratitude to the team for the gesture and pledged their determination towards ensuring and securing the
well-being of the students in their care.
