Eguma lauds new signings

Technical manager of Rivers United, Stanley Eguma is impressed with the performance of the new players that joined the club during the transfer window.

Three of them, Ayo Saka, John Odumegwu and Onoriode Odah took part in the club’s CAF Confederation Cup game against Club Africain in Tunisia on Sunday.

Odumegwu scored United’s solitary goal in the 1-3 defeat while Saka and Onoriode displayed sparks of brilliance with Eguma giving a seal of approval to the trio.

“I was impressed with the performances of the new boys against Club Africain on Sunday,” Eguma told said.“It was their first major game with the team and they performed well.

“Gradually, they will embrace our philosophy and will perform even better than they did on Sunday,” he added.Rivers United’s next game in the CAF Confederation Cup is against another North African side, FUS Rabat.

Eguma knows that recording a win against the former Botola Pro (Moroccan top flight) champions is paramount if they are to get their campaign back on track.The trainer says they will draw from their experience of facing Club Africain on Sunday in the game against FUS Rabat next Wednesday.

“It is a good thing that we have already faced a North African club in this competition and we will learn from the experience.“FUS Rabat is a very strong team and have been champions of this competition in the past (2010).

“They won their first game and it is a boost for them and we will also want to win our game.
“We want to qualify for the quarterfinals so we have to work hard to beat FUS Rabat in our next game,” he concluded.

The game between Rivers United and FUS Rabat will hold on Wednesday, May 24, at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt from 4pm.
