Education tending towards PPP – Fed Min of Educ
Modern trend in education in Nigeria is tending towards Public/Private Partnership.
The Director, Basic and Secondary Education, Federal Ministry of Education, David Chikezie Uwaezuoke stated this in Ohafia on the occasion of the 14th Inter-House sports competition of Federal Government College, Ohafia stating that this becomes the trend because it is a known fact that government alone cannot sufficiently provide all the funds needed for optimum development of the sector in view of other competing needs.
The Director therefore urged parents, guardians, corporate organizations and public spirited individuals to come to the aid of the college in the provision of sporting equipment.
He commended the efforts of the principal, staff and students of the school for their roles in packaging the event.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Principal of the school, Dennis Igbokwe Okengwu said the college is committed to the total development of the students intellectually, physically and otherwise, disclosing that sports is an integral part of the college curriculum to enable them achieve the intellectual excellence.
Okengwu highlighted the gains of sporting activities to include “discovery of talents, development of spirit of sportsmanship, healthy competitive spirit, team spirit, leadership qualities, patriotism, patience, cooperation, sociability and other qualities of good charactef of citizenship”.
While thanking the Federal Ministry of Education for its contribution towards the development of sports in college, Okengwu solicited the support of the ministry, individuals and corporate bodies for higher level of sports in the college.
