Edo Police Command parades 28 Suspects‎

The Edo State Command of the Nigeria Police, Tuesday paraded 28 suspects arrested for various degree of offences across the state. Also, 10 guns, 15 live ammunitions, 32 assorted phones, two cars and many other items recovered from them were displayed at the event.

Commissioner of Police, Johnson Kokumo revealed this during media briefing held at the command headquarters, Benin City, where he confirmed the arrest of the suspects for various offences ranging from armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism and farmers/ herders crisis at different locations.

When breaking down the success story, Kokumo said: “Tahiru Usman was arrested in connection with the killing of one Pastor Pius Eromosele initially kidnapped with two others at Odighi community in Ovia North East council, Benin City. One dane gun, one cutlass and one dagger were recovered from him.

“Similarly, the Police at Auchi arrested one Fulani herder with some charms, while others escaped. They kidnapped Idris Mohammed, but was rescued unhurt by the policemen. Efforts are on to arrest others and to recover their arms.

“In the same vein, five members of armed robbery gang who have been terrorising Plymouth road in Benin City, were arrested on a distress call by the people. Two single barrel, and double barrel cut to size guns, three live cartridges, one Mercedes Benz car suspected to be stolen were recovered from them.

“Also, five suspected armed robbers terrorising passerby along Sakponba road were arrested by a vigilance group while robbing one Musa Abdullahi.

He was later handed over to the police. One black toy gun, one improvised gun and one Techno phone were recovered from him.

“Two kidnappers who disguised as herders were arrested in the bush at Afuze area and taken to Ekpoma Division by the IGP Intelligence Response Team, preliminary investigation was conducted and confessional statement extracted before they were transferred to the Command on my instruction. Ak 47 rifle and 10 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition were recovered from them.

” The Command while responding to distress call at Uronigbe area arrested seven suspected cultists during free for all fight, they all confessed to being members of the Eiye Cult Group. One locally made pistol, one single barrel cut to size gun, two live cartridges and three handsets were recovered from them too.

“In another development, acting on information, the Command arrested one person alleged to be a member of armed robbery gang. One double barrel cut to size gun, one Volkswagen Golf car suspected to be stolen, 28 assorted telephone handsets, one hammer and cash sum of N19, 040 were recovered from him.

” The Command wishes to place on record the continued assistance from other security stakeholders and the cooperation of the good people of Edo State in volunteering credible information that has led to these laudable achievements. We wish all citizenry of our worthy stewardship and a safe community at all times.” He concluded.

Meanwhile, many of the suspects interviewed during the parade confirmed their participation in the various crime allegations levelled against them by the Police, while pleading for pardon from the government, and promised not to involve in criminal activities if they are released by the authority, having suffered enough in the police custody since their arrest.
