…..vows to restore peace to pave the way for credible elections in state chapter
The Caretaker Committee of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Edo State has strongly denied being an appendage of any of the feuding factions in the raging crisis in the state council of the union.
Besides, it also vehemently denied the erroneous mindset that the Prof. Monday Lewis Igbafen led five-man committee is against the Governor Monday Okpebholo- led State Government.
A terse statement by the caretaker committee chairman, Prof. Monday Igbafen in Benin City after a meeting with 14 affiliate unions assured the state government of robust labour relations that will benefit the government, employers and employees/workers in the state.
Igbafen appealed to all aggrieved comrades to sheath their swords, embrace genuine reconciliation and the virtues of comradeship to reposition the state NLC.
He commended the national leadership of NLC led by Comrade Joe Ajaero for the support to realise the mandate to reform the association in Edo State.
The Edo NLC caretaker committee chairman lauded the national leadership of the National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN) for the decisive, swift and progressive decision it reached on the recent development in Edo NLC as it relates to the controversial resignation of Comrade Mike Ochei from the Caretaker Committee.
The statement further reaffirmed the members resolute commitment to the mandate given to the Caretaker Committee to restore peace and order, to pave the way for credible elections in the state NLC.
While passing a vote of absolute confidence on the committee, the unionists commended the committee members for the efforts made so far to restore the dignity, principles, ethos and rights of the labour movement in the state.
The affiliate unions of NLC at the meeting included the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU), Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Employees (NUBIFIE), amongst others.
