Consumers in the West African sub region will begin to experience no qualms in identifying genuine products and services as ECOWAS launches a quality compliance mark, ECOMark.
This quality compliance tool is within the framework of the West Africa Quality System Programme (WAQSP), which can be seen as a follow up effort towards the attainment of continental free trade zone.
The two decades’ old struggle to regulate the influx of substandard goods in the region, through the harmonisation of all quality initiatives is gradually becoming a reality.
As part of plans to launch the certification scheme, a regional meeting with stakeholders from the 15 West African states, was held in Abuja on Thursday, to adopt the draft document for the establishment of ECOWAS regional product certification scheme ECOMark.
