Ebonyi to boost healthcare, deploy more Health Workers across 171 Wards

Ebonyi State Commissioner for Health, Hon. Moses Ikenna Ekuma has stated his Ministry’s plan to deploy more health workers to the 171 INEC-recognised political Wards in the State.

He explained that the purpose was to boost healthcare services to the citizens of the State, especially those at rural setting.

Disclosing this to newsmen in his office at Centenary City, Abakaliki while refuting a publication that his office is currently recruiting auxiliary nurses.

The Commissioner emphasized that his office hadn’t such plan rather the government through his Ministry is only engaging a group of people known as Community Health Based Workers.

“This first group will be posted to health facilities specially the primary health centers, where they would be attending to pregnant women, take deliveries and refer cases when necessary” he said.

Other components of the group include Junior Community Health Extension Workers and the Assistant Community Based Health Workers that would be serving as a link between the community and the facilities.

He added that the people to be recruited are ten persons per an INEC recognized political wards across the state as they will be going round communities to identify pregnant women, which have registered for ante-natal care and the centers, where the registrations took place.

“During the routine check, they will also find out when the expectant mothers supposed to go for ante-natal clinic and if they happen to see children that ought to be immunized within the age of immunization, they would ensure that such persons are linked to the health facilities where they would be given immunization” he said.

Hon. Ekuma further disclosed that both Junior Community Health Extension Workers and Assistant Community Based Health Workers would not only ensure that the people do not miss their appointments and also link them to other forms of medical needs available in health facilities.

He reiterated that the Ministry of Health is not recruiting auxiliary nurses and charged every Ebonyi person with any health challenge to visit health facility closest them as Ebonyi State Government is focused on improving the health state of every Ebonyi person.
