Ebonyi APC slams Umahi for supporting Buhari’s $1bn withdrawal from ECA
A faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Ebonyi state loyal to the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu has condemned Ebonyi state governor, Engr. David Umahi for supporting President Muhammadu Buhari’s request to draw $1 billion from the Excess Crude Account (ECA), to fight insurgency.
The state Publicity Secretary of the faction, Chika Nwoba said that the approval would plunge the state in economic hardship, questioning the rationale behind the governor’s support.
He further condemned the state house of assembly for approving the deduction of the share of Ebonyi state government to the federal government, when it can be used to further develop the state.
He said: “Ebonyi state house of assembly has approved the sum of $1 million as requested by Gov David Umahi to help the federal government in the fight against insurgency in the country. Have you seen it? Where did the governor source the $1 billion he is giving free of charge to the federal government?
“Does this not occur to him that President Buhari might be laughing at him at his back? Does he think that Buhari is such a president to be cowed into stupid activities?
The APC scribe therefore called for the declaration of state of emergency on the State house of assembly because the leadership, Speaker, Hon. Francis Nwifuru has abused the confidence reposed in him by the people.
The President had requested for the use of the one billion dollars belonging to the three tiers of government to fight insurgency in the country.
Efforts made to reach the chief press secretary to the governor, Mr Emmanuel Uzor proved abortive as he either failed to pick or respond to several calls put across to him.
