Ebonyi APC aspirant raises alarm over persecution, destruction of Church property

The All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Ebonyi state, Dr Adol Awam, has raised the alarm over alleged persecution of his church and destruction of its property by individual in the state while appealing to President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene.
The guber aspirant alleged that already, the church’s billboard mounted opposite Government House in Abakaliki, the state capital for evangelism purpose was torn apart and removed after he declared his intention to run for the governorship seat in the 2019 general election.
This was even as he alleged that the members of the opposition parties, especially the All Progressives Congress (APC) have been going through lots of challenges because of their stand in the political arena.
The cleric, who is the General overseer of Eternal Light of World Christian Church, made the call Thursday at a press conference held at his campaign office in Abakaliki.
“I wish to state that the billboard was destroyed immediately I declared for the governorship and that the billboard is for evangelism and not for political campaign”, he said.
When contacted on the development, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Emmanuel Uzor, dismissed the allegations as baseless.
He said that his principal cannot condescend that low to order the destruction of the church’s billboards simply because their General Overseer declared interest in the 2019 governorship race.
He, however, directed the leadership of the church to meet with the Abakaliki Capital Development Board (ACTDB) for clarifications on the terms and conditions of mounting billboards in the state capital, suggesting that it might have been removed by ACTDB for not meeting their terms.
