Easter: Jonathan Calls for Patriotism, Sacrifice
President Goodluck Jonathan has called on Nigerians to be more patriotic and make more sacrifice for the growth and development of the country.
The President made this call at the Presidential Villa, when the residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), paid him Easter homage, on Sunday.
Jonathan reiterated that no nation could effectively develop without the patriotic zeal and sacrifice of its citizenry and, therefore, urged Nigerians to brace up to the challenge.
According to him, Easter is significant to Christianity, as the celebration is all about the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ to humanity.
He thanked the FCT residents for finding time to pay him this Easter homage, saying that it was a season of love and sacrifice.
The President used the occasion to also thank Nigerians for giving him the opportunity to serve at various capacities from Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State to the position of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the past 16 years (1999-2015), stressing: “I am indeed grateful to Nigerians.” Also speaking at the occasion, the Vice President, Architect Namadi Sambo, appreciated the contributions of President Goodluck Jonathan to the development of the country, noting: “You have made Nigeria to be a pride of Africa and your name would surely be written in gold”.
