Easter: Be strong, resilient, Wase urges Nigerians

As Christians mark the Easter celebration, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ahmed Wase has charged Nigerians to remain strong and resilient in spite of the prevailing global COVID-19 pandemic.

The deputy speaker in a congratulatory message to the Christians on the feast of Easter issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Umar Puma, urged Nigerians never to give up in the face of obvious obstacles.

“I wish to sincerely congratulate the Christian faithful on the feast of Easter. It is my candid prayer that despite the current challenges, God will gift you a peaceful and solemn celebration.

“It is unfortunate that most of you may not be able to visit your loved ones because of the lockdown. But, take this as the sacrifice we all have to make to conquer the coronavirus.

“I urge you not to despair, but to be strong by making sacrifices for our families, neighbours and the society at large, in order to overcome the present difficult condition.

According to the deputy speaker, with resilience and obedience to the preventive measures recommended by the NCDC, Nigeria will surely come out stronger from the coronavirus pandemic.

“I admonish you not to abandon the preventive measures put in place by the federal government and various state governments to contain the spread of the virus.

“Let us cooperate with security agencies and health personnel in order to kick out this deadly virus out of Nigeria,” he added.

The deputy speaker noted that COVID-19 should serve as a lesson that no human being or institution is an island because we need one another to exist.

He appealed to Christians to use the period to reflect on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, some of which include love of neighbour, honesty, obedience, humility and sacrifice, adding that “if we imbibe these virtues, the world will be a better place.”
