Those Dumping the PDP for the APC Are Fair Weather Politicians

A Senator-elect in Ekiti North Senatorial District, Hon. Duro Faseyi, has condemned the mass defection of members of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) shortly after the March 28 presidential election won by the candidate of the APC, Gen Mohammadu Buhar, saying those dumping the PDP for the APC as “fair weather politicians who are only interested in their pockets.”
Speaking at the weekend while speaking with journalists at Iludun Ekiti, while commenting on various political developments in the country, he declared that “It is unfortunate that people are moving, It is not healthy for our democracy, those doing that are commercial politicians looking for what to eat. I have remained a faithful party member since I joined politics and I will remain so. So I see no reason why people should dump the PDP because the APC won at the centre.
“They are supposed to have come together to form a formidable opposition.”he said.
The senator elect however declared that none of the newly elected members of the Party from Ekiti would dump the party for the APC He insisted that rather, they would join hands with Governor Ayo Fayose to form a formidable opposition to the incoming APC federal government.
He dismissed insinuation that the incoming state House of Assembly would be mere rubber stamp to the Governor Ayo Fayose-led government saying every bill and policies by the Executive would be critically examined to ensure that the people derive maximally from the dividends of democracy.
He maintained that all the nine National Assembly and state House of Assembly members-elect on the platform of the PDP would work together as a team to fight for what belong to Ekiti state from the APC incoming federal government.
“We will remain strong and stronger. We are not going to defect, we would stand by the governor and by our people,” Faseyi vowed.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the supplementary House of Assembly election held in Ilejemeje State constituency on Saturday, Mrs Bose Dada, the winner of the election.
The INEC Returning Officer for the election, Mrs Chiyelu Agwu, while returning the PDP candidate, said she polled a total of 3,449 against the candidate of the All Progressives Congress and incumbent lawmaker in the constituency, Hon Segun Erinle.
