Dualisation of Benin-Auchi road: Edo Speaker threatens sanctions against contractors

The Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Kabiru Adjoto, has directed contractors Dantata and Sonwe, Rynold Construction Company (RCC) and Mother Cat handling the dualisation of Benin Auchi-Ekpoma-Lokoja Road to appear unfailingly before the House on Monday, October 16, 2017.

The Speaker who gave the directive at the resumption of plenary of the 6th Assembly, third Session, Second Quarter, said the contractors and the Federal Controller of Works were duly invited before the House went on recess to appear before the House during resumption.

He regretted that the contractors deliberately ignored the directive of the House and warned that failure of the contractors to appear before the House on October 16, 2017 will compel the House to issue a bench warrant of arrest on the contractor.

Meanwhile, the Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Kabiru Adjoto, says the release of N100 billion Sukuk bond proceeds to finance 25 roads projects across the six geo-political zones is a manifestation of President Muhammadu Buhari commitment to tackle infrastructural decay inherited from the previous administration.

Hon. Adjoto while evaluating the significance of the Benin-Auchi-Ehor Ekpoma Road, as well as the Benin Lokoja-Obajana Okene roads to boosting socio-economic activities, blamed the deplorable condition of the road to failed contracts and projects perpetrated by the previous administration.

The statement endorsed by the Special Adviser to the Speaker on Media and Publicity, Jacob Afeinkhena, apologised to Nigerians for the trauma, agony and harrowing experiences they were subjected to in these several years.

He expressed satisfaction over the intervention by the present administration with the release of funds to commence the reconstruction of the roads which are strategic to industrialisation drive of Edo State Government in synergy with the Federal Government.

The Speaker said the on the spot assessment of the Benin-Auchi, Ekpoma Road by members of the State House of Assembly and the resolution passed during plenary for the Federal Controller of Works and contractors handling the various sections of the road to return to site has paid off tremendously.

He warned contractors to execute quality job that will prolong the life span of the road, just as he added that the House will not hesitate to blacklist any recalcitrant contractor who indulges in executing half-hazard job.

“There has been a public outcry over the death-trapped nature of Benin Auchi Road, resulting to loss of lives and property, as well as man hours stifling the economy of the country, all these, would now be a thing of the past”, the Speaker enthused.

It would be recalled that the dualisation of Lokoja-Benin Road, Obajana Junction Benin Section II Phase I Okene-Auchi Kogi and Edo states, Dualisation of Lokoja-Benin Road, Obajana Junction Benin Section IV Phase I, Auchi, Ehor-Edo State were among the roads captured in the South-South zone for reconstruction to end the prolonged plight and economic despondency suffered by the people.
