Following the qualification of Nigeria senior men’s national basketball team, D’Tigers, for the 2015 FIBA AfroBasket Championship after the two-leg victories over Burkina Faso counterparts, fresh indications are brewing that the DSTV League faces likely interregnum in the season’s schedule for the two affiliated conferences as a result of the clash with the camping programme likely to submitted by the technical crew led by the Kano Pillars Basketball Club handler, Sani Ahmed.
Revealing this to Extra Time under the plea of anonymity, a member of the D’Tigers technical crew revealed that they envisage D’Tigers camping programme will be long and may dip into the latter end of the season’s hostilities.
“It’s very good that we have qualified for the AfroBasket, but the work is still in progress for the team. “We have an intensive camping ahead, but I know clubsides will not take it lightly following the mass invitation of their best players when the season is at the peak.
“Some clubsides have started complaining already from the first week and the coaches are affected too.
“The federation needs to address such issue ahead of the camping period,” he said.
Extra Time learnt that clubsides’ chieftains are not favourably disposed to the likely exodus of the best players to the national camp, even as there’re talks of hastening the weekly fixtures by playing matches on Wednesdays and Fridays ahead of the FIBA AfroBasket Championship in Tunisia later in the year.
