The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly arrested an Osun State–based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Daood Imran Molaasan, after a video circulated online showing him and members of his group calling for a “Free Palestine” protest.
Sheikh Molaasan, said to be a leader of the Ta’awunu Muslimeen group, was taken into custody after the video went viral and raised security concerns.
According to SaharaReporters, the arrest followed intelligence-led operations by the DSS to monitor public gatherings and online mobilisation that could pose threats to public order.
The DSS has yet to issue an official statement, but sources said operatives are reviewing the content, context and intent of the video, as well as the activities of the group, in line with Nigeria’s internal security laws.
The arrest comes amid heightened surveillance by security agencies over protests and religious mobilisation linked to international conflicts, as authorities seek to prevent potential spillovers into domestic unrest.
