Driver arrested for impersonation

The Lagos State Commissioner of police, CP Fatai Owoseni, has arrested a driver and his conductor for alleged impersonation in Lagos.
The suspects, Tunde Sanni and his conductor, Sunday Asapo were arrested along the 3rd Mainland bridge expressway between Adeniji Adele and Olowu intersection in Lagos Island, Lagos.
According to police report, CP Owoseni was on routine patrol when he spotted a Fanagon bus with registration number, FKJ 205 XB painted in Nigeria Police colour.

The bus was conveying passengers to unknown destination before the police boss flagged the driver down to identify the vehicle and passengers on board.

The driver, Sanni, said he was only a commercial driver but claimed ownership of the vehicle. He also admitted it was not a police bus. They were handed over to the police at Adeniji Adele police station while the vehicle was impounded as exhibit and kept at the station.

Following the discovery, the Lagos State Police Command has warned the public, especially motorists against branding their vehicles in the official police colours thereby impersonating the police. The warning was given by the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos who noted that, apart from impersonating police colour, some also wear police uniform to fool unsuspecting members of the public.
“Our investigations have reveled that the impostors hide under the guise of being police officers to commit nefarious activities.”

The PPRO said police will no longer tolerate the act. Meanwhile, investigation on Sanni and his conductor will soon be concluded and the accused persons taken to court.
