Drama as 2 unity school principals fight over seat

It was a sort of drama as one of the Unity Colleges in the country, Federal Government Girls College (FGGC), Bwari, was thrown into confusion as two principals lay claim to the exalted seat of the college.

Investigation by the Daily Times revealed that the supposed outgoing Principal of the school, Mrs Agbinedu Ijeoma was issued with a letter of transfer by the Federal Ministry of Education about a month ago and was to handover to the new Principal, Mrs Omu Stella on February 24, 2017.

One of our sources alleged that Mrs Ijeoma had alleged that she bought the principal’s position for N2 million, boosting that nobody can stop her from recovering her money.“What is happening today in Unity College is very unusual. Admission forms and letters now sells for N50,000.”

Some of these eight principals including ours, have been redeployed to Inspectorate Directorate of the Federal Ministry of Education, but they are insisting they won’t go because their retirement is due in 10 months from now.” Trouble started last week Thursday when the new Principal, Mrs Omu reportedly resumed work at her new office and met a stiff resistance from her supposed predecessor who was still comfortable on the seat.

All efforts to take over the office was resisted by the old Principal.
Mrs Omu was then asked to go back and return on Monday being March 6, 2017. Sources within the school told our reporter that when the new Principal, Mrs Omu reported again on Monday, the outgoing Principal asked her to wait while she hold a meeting with the staff of the college.

The sources also allege that the reason the Principal does not want
to handover to the new one was that she claimed to have bought the position for N2 million from a former Minister of State for Education.

Our source further disclosed that the principals that were issued transfer notice are eight in number and are in the directorate cadre which the new education policy does not favour being a principal. The eight, Daily Times learnt have also
petitioned the National Assembly rejecting the transfer citing, victimisation.

According to the new education policy, as driven by the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu and the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, only persons within the ranks of Assistant Director and Deputy Director could be appointed Principal of Schools, while the Directors would be at the education directorate to supervise their activities.

Some of the teachers, who spoke to the Daily Times separately, gave account of the dramatic incident: Mrs Theresa Johns (real names withheld) said Mrs Agbinedu Ijeoma
has not contributed anything to the girl child education.
