Deputy Speaker Kalu Denies 2027 Abia Governorship Ambition

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has refuted reports suggesting that he has declared interest in the 2027 Abia State governorship election.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu in Abuja, Kalu described the report, attributed to an online platform, Native Reporters, as false, misleading and unfounded.

The statement clarified that Kalu has not, at any time, made a private or public declaration to contest for the Abia governorship in 2027.

It noted that the Deputy Speaker is presently focused on fulfilling his four year mandate of representing Bende Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and serving Nigerians with commitment and integrity.

The office urged the publishers of the report to retract the story and advised media practitioners to adhere to basic journalistic principles of accuracy, truth and fairness.

It added that any political decision by the Deputy Speaker would be formally communicated by his political family at the appropriate time.
