Delta: Violence Erupts at Otor-Ogor, as Voting Begins
Violence has broke out at Otor-Ogor, Ughelli North Council Area of Delta state as voting commence in the Governorship and State House of Assembly Election.
Sources said that there was skirmishes in Edjekota Unit 11 and Otor-Ogor Unit 11 during the accreditation of voters as one of the party agent raised alarm of alleged malpractices.
Meanwhile, soldiers and paramilitary are heavily deployed around Warri and its environ and major highways.
Voters were as early as 8: 45 am seen at Yowunren College, Nana Collage and Olodi Primary, some of the Polling Units in Warri South Council awaiting voting materials to commence the exercise.
At the Independent National Electoral Commission office in Warri it was discovered that election materials had been distributed long ago.
The Electoral Officer in Warri, Mrs Fidelia Omoile told reporters that the distribution of materials commenced yesterday and ended earlier today.
“Materials have been distributed, the arguments you see around are party agents who have disagreement about the collation centres when election has not started,” she said.
However, outside Warri in Ewhreni, there was a heavy presence of voters who had started accreditation at 10am at Mr O’tega Emerhor’s polling unit. Emerhor is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the Delta State governorship election.
At Udu Council area, sources said that voting materials have been hijacked at Orhuwhorun Ward by the community Health Centre.
At Abigborodo, country home of Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, Governor of Delta State, accreditation had ended and voting process about to start. Uduaghan was accredited with the card reader at his home town, Abigborodo, around 11 am.
